Eight gamers set to battle in eLigue1 tour grand finale

Kenya is for the fourth time set to host the grand finale of the eLigue1 tour, scheduled to take place on Friday 28 March at Nairobi’s Charter Hall from 1500 EAT.

The eLigue1 tour is an international esports tournament organized in partnership with French Ligue1, and sees players compete on Playstation 5 using the EA FC 25 game, and using only Ligue 1 teams.

The winner of this year’s edition will win a trip to Paris, France.

The competition, which will have the top eight gamers contest the finals, attracted a total 716 participants, who took part in the knockout rounds held on 8 March at BBS Mall in Eastleigh.

From that tournament, seven gamers booked their way into the finals, where they will face the 2023 and 2024 reigning champion Eric “Demon” Ngige.

The seven include: Samuel “Sam Carter” Oyier, Joshua “Kajojo_Kajoze” Agutu, Collins “Collo Gamer” Ngugi, Caleb “Prorate” Kibet, Harun “Haruun Haruun” Ahmed, Daniel “Deto” Gichimu, and Harry “Harry Kappa” Thuku.

The game-night will also include a ladies category, which will see four gamers contest a final.

They will include: Bernice “Bernice” Wangari Wangechi, Brillian “Lil_Tekkz” Nekesa, Shantel “Starlight” Wanjiru, and Shirley “Tinto” Ndirangu.

Given the growth of the game, Esports Kenya Federation President Ronny Lusigi expects a larger turnout this year, as compared to the last, which brought together 500 fans at Zetech University.

“We are expecting 2000 fans and we will also be having dignitaries in attendance from French Ambassador to Kenya, to Nairobi Governor and Deputy Governor and also Ministry of Sports officials,” Lusigi mentioned in his statement.

“This year's edition has been bigger than all of them. We are happy to have got the support of Nairobi County Government to move the event to a bigger venue; the charter hall.”
